Badgir is a traditional structure for air-conditioning the buildings. The exact date of the wind tower is not known, but it dates back to about 4000 BC.

Uses of wind Catcher: ‌ 1- Air conditioning in desert areas: it brings cold air in and hot air out , and when the air move form pond it fresh it and let the area be cool in summer and during hot seasons.

 2- Keeping food cool and using as a refrigerator: in the past houses don’t have refrigerator so they put their meat and food in cellar and prevents them from spoiling.

The Wind Catchers come in various designs : unidirectional, bidirectional, and multidirectional.Their size and height vary according to the region. Of course, in the past, the bigger and the more the Badgir of a house, it meant that the richer the family. Wind catchers are usually made of mud, clay ,bricks and wooden beams.

The tallest wind catcher in the world is the wind catcher of Dolatabad Garden in Yazd with a height of 33.8 meters.
